A series of development works to the departure lounge and surrounding retail units are nearing completion at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA).

Approximately £1m (US$1.5m) has been spent on the project in recent months with the remodeling of the lounge to enable better views of the apron, runway and Mersey estuary, as well as the installation of new seating and flooring.

A new, larger WHSmith retail unit has replaced the old store, enabling the existing The Kissing Gate Bar and Eatery area to be expanded. Further developments include the addition of a new café, Joe’s Coffee House, and the extension of the Frankie & Benny’s restaurant. An outdoor smoking area has also been provided within the departure lounge area, with weather protection and a wall heater.

Lucy O’Shaughnessy, commercial director, LJLA, said, “These latest improvements and additions to the lounge will help to make the customer experience even better. In particular, the opening up of the departure lounge to enable more views out across the apron and beyond will really enhance the relaxed, hassle free ambience that we are already known for.”
