Los Angeles Airport business opportunity forum hailed a success

The mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, teamed up with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) officials on Wednesday to address a forum of nearly 1,000 local business owners. The gathering was a chance to promote the opportunities available as part of the estimated US$1.8bn second wave of contracts arising from the ongoing Los Angeles International Airport Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP).

LAWA officials and the mayor revealed more about the project, and networked with contractors hoping to be part of the selection process. The LAMP program is valued at US$5.5bn in total, with the second phase set to include a Consolidated Rent-a-Car (ConRAC) facility and access to an Automated People Mover (APM) system. The major components are expected to be completed by 2023.

Mayor Garcetti said, “Los Angeles is a city of opportunity, and we want businesses of every size – and from every community – to understand how they can participate in the US$14bn investment we’re making at the airport. The modernization program has already created more than 40,000 construction-related jobs, and our small and local businesses can help create tens of thousands more in the coming years.”

Deborah Flint, LAWA CEO, added, “The forum was designed for the local and small business community to engage and have networking opportunities with firms proposing on three new LAMP projects. It’s essential that a program of this size and duration must create new jobs and opportunities, and the participation of small, local and diverse businesses will be one of the key indicators of success for Los Angeles World Airports.”
