Photo exhibition showcasing Michigan opens at Detroit Metropolitan Airport

A new photo exhibition has opened at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Michigan, USA, showcasing images of the city’s cultural landmarks and the state’s natural beauty.

The Pure Michigan photo experience will be located in the Arrivals Hall of the McNamara Terminal and in the North Terminal of the airport, and is part of a drive to build on efforts to attract international leisure travelers to the state.

The exhibition has been launched to coincide with the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, kicking off January 11, 2016. Pure Michigan is the result of collaboration between Travel Michigan, the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, Detroit Metropolitan Airport, the airlines and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Dave Lorenz, vice president of Travel Michigan, said, “Detroit truly serves as the gateway to Michigan for the vast majority of our international visitors. From the moment people step off that plane, we want them to feel welcome in Michigan, to be excited about arriving in America’s great comeback city and to be inspired by the leisure travel opportunities our state has to offer. We appreciate the hard work of everyone involved to bring this experience to life.”

Thomas Naughton, CEO of Wayne County Airport Authority, the airport operator, said, “Detroit Metropolitan Airport is often the first and last impression many visitors to our region take back home. Working together with our partners at Pure Michigan and CBP, our arriving international travelers are now greeted with beautiful images of our state’s iconic landscapes, natural areas and culture – what better way to say: welcome to Michigan.”

The Pure Michigan photo experience includes iconic images such as the Detroit skyline and riverfront, The Henry Ford museum, Marquette, Ludington, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Porcupine Mountain State Park, Turnip Rock in Port Austin, Les Cheneaux Islands and Lake Superior. The largest image in the exhibition measures 12ft in height and 61ft in length.
