Plans approved for new terminal and pier at Schiphol Airport

Plans to develop a new terminal and pier at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands have been given the go-ahead by the airport’s stakeholders.

The Dutch government, the municipality of Amsterdam and airport operator Aéroports de Paris (ADP) have all issued their final approval for the construction of a new terminal located to the south of the Schiphol Plaza, capable of accommodating 14 million passengers annually. The project will also see the construction of a new flexible pier that can accommodate both narrow and wide-bodied aircraft. The new pier and terminal are scheduled to open in 2019 and 2023 respectively.

Jos Nijhuis, CEO, Schiphol Group, said, “We are making investments in order to reinforce, improve and expand our infrastructure, our quality and our accessibility. This commitment has made the realization of the new pier and terminal possible. It represents a hefty investment that will simultaneously provide the foundation for our continued capacity growth, including long-term aspects such as space to further expand the piers in the future.

“We additionally intend to invest in the station area, the bus station, Schiphol Plaza and Jan Dellaertplein (the square in front of the terminal) in the coming years. The sum of these parts will serve to strengthen our international competitive position.”
