Atlanta International installs CPR training kiosk

The American Heart Association (AHA) has partnered with airline operator Delta Airlines to install an interactive CPR kiosk for passengers in Concourse A at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia, USA.

Passengers using the kiosk will receive a two-minute training session on hands-only CPR and will be asked to practice their compressions on a mannequin torso. The users are then given feedback about proper hand placement and the rate and depth of compressions.

The kiosk is being funded by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia Foundation and Amerigroup Foundation, and will remain at the airport for a period of two years.

Herman Taylor, a board member with the AHA, said, “The survival rate for those who don’t get CPR is very, very low. After cardiac arrest, every second counts.

“Those early moments, we’ve got to have someone step up and step in, and this tool can help us do that.”

Hartsfield-Jackson is one of several airports with a hands-only CPR kiosk, along with Baltimore-Washington International (Maryland), Chicago O’Hare (Illinois), Indianapolis (Indiana) and Las Vegas McCarran (Nevada). The airport also has more than 400 automated external defibrillator machines stationed throughout the terminal and concourses.
