CBP’s Mobile Passport Control app now available for Denver International

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app is now available for international travelers to download and use when flying into Denver International Airport in Colorado.

The app is available to US and Canadian citizens only and requires them to submit their passport information and customs declaration form via a smartphone or tablet prior to arriving at the airport. This information is then converted into a quick response (QR) code displayed on the mobile devices screen, which can then be scanned to help expedite the customs clearing process.

The app does not require pre-approval, is free to use and does not collect any new information about the travelers. Denver International is one of the first large airports in the USA to implement the new technology, and has invested approximately US$30,000 in installing eight specialized scanning units within the international arrivals area. CBP and Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) developed the MPC app along with their technical partners.

Ken Greene, chief operating officer, Denver Airport, said, “Approximately 50%-70% of the international travelers who arrive at Denver International through our customs hall are eligible to use MPC, so providing access to this service will help streamline the customs experience for a large number of travelers each year. We are excited about this collaboration with CBP, which will offer many of these passengers faster processing times as they make their way into the USA via the Mile High City.”

Brian J Humphrey, director of field operations in San Francisco, CBP, said, “CBP remains committed to keeping the international arrivals process as secure and traveler-friendly as possible by offering new and innovative technology systems.

“The MPC app adds another option proven to reduce wait times for the ever-growing number of international visitors without compromising our important border protection mission.”
