Atlanta International named best US airport

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International has been named the best airport in the USA by The travel news website quizzed consumers and aviation experts via Google Survey, asking them to rate airports across the country in seven categories: ease of access, amenities, airline volume, terminal modernity, terminal comfort, family friendly, and business friendly. It has now released a list of the top 100 airports, based on the results, with Atlanta taking the top spot. said that Atlanta was highly regarded for its ability to handle large volumes of airlines and passengers, and it was also voted top in the amenities and business friendliness categories. Joining it in the top five overall are Orlando, Denver, Minneapolis and Charlotte. Orlando, in second place, came top in the ease of access category, while Denver scored highly in the terminal modernity section.

To qualify for the survey, airports had to have either processed 700,000 or more passengers during 2015, as per FAA figures, or were the top ranking representative in their state. This created a list of 115 facilities across the country, which were then rated in each category from -4 (awful) to +4 (exceptional), with a chance for respondents to include extra comments. Some of the smaller airports, such as Fort Myers and Columbus, did very well, ranking at numbers 24 and 34 respectively, with newer airports like Phoenix and Portland also making their mark, coming in at 16 and 30.

While Atlanta came top overall in the rankings, the top 100 had surprising results in terms of who came bottom. According to those surveyed, the honor of coming in 100th place goes to New York’s LaGuardia Airport, which one respondent called “dated and unclean.”
