Blast resistant barriers heading for Europe’s airports

europe airports tensator bomb blast resistant barriers TMP security Queue management specialist Tensator has revealed its bomb blast-resistant barriers for airports across Europe.

The Tensator Micam Protection (TMP) systems have been developed to meet a growing demand for solutions that reduce the harm caused by explosions and terrorist attacks.

The barriers can also be used to manage passenger flow or cordon off out of access areas through airports during usual service.

Micam’s reinforced glass fiber technology makes the barriers strong enough to absorb the force of a blast without it breaking up and causing injuries to nearby people. The panels are designed to stretch on impact, reducing the amount of debris generated.

The system is approved by the UK’s Department for Transport body Aviation Security in Airport Development (ASIAD) and has also been tested by explosion specialist Crossley Consult.

Adam Walsh, European business development executive at Tensator, commented, “Safety must always be the top priority, but it can be difficult for staff to keep waiting times down if there are additional checks in place. Customers may understand why they are necessary, but they will still have a poor travelling experience if they spend too long stuck in queues.

“The advantage of the TMP system is its flexibility. The barriers can be configured to fit any space, with the ASIAD compliant model bolted down for enhanced security. Safety features, particularly the Micam panels, are not discernable to members of the public and do not hinder their journey, but they could prove invaluable in a crisis.”
